EdQual PhD student appointed Coordinator for ‘Leadership for Learning’ in Ghana.

Alfred Ampah-Mensah, has been appointed 'Coordinator' for the Leadership for Learning (LfL) Programme in Ghana, a collaborative programme between the Institute for Educational Planning and Administration (IEPA) of the University of Cape Coast, Ghana, Centre for Commonwealth Education (CCE) of the University of Cambridge, UK and the Ghana Education Service (GES). LfL is intended to build the capacity of basic school headteachers in Ghana in order to improve the quality of education provided.

EdQual-Rwanda dissemination event takes place in Kigali, September 2010.

The Kigali Institute of Education (KIE), a partner in the EdQual group, has conducted its final dissemination event presenting findings and points of interest from the project that has dealt primarily with the introduction and use of ICT as a teaching tool.

EdQual to present at ‘Education Access, Quality and Outcomes in Low and Middle Income Countries’ conference in November 2010

The conference will present the findings from the work of three DfID Education Research Programme Consortia (RPCs), EdQual, RECOUP and CREATE, with the aim of helping to inform the future direction of policy in the area of education and development.

EdQual representative to present research findings at seminar at the Marang Centre, South Africa, October 2010.

EdQual researcher Hamsa Venkat along with Corin Mathews and Jacques du Plessis will present their paper “Examples and non-examples for teaching patterns – Findings from the EdQual study on primary mathematics teaching” to the inaugural research seminar at the Marang centre in Johanesburg, South Africa. The seminar coincides with the fifth birthday of the centre and looks at the presentation and progression of teaching ‘pattern’ as a topic in African primary schools.

The seminar, featuring EdQual institutional co-ordinator Angeline Barrett, will bring together researchers, education experts, planners and development partners to debate the implications for policy and practice of recent research findings on school quality in Zanzibar.

EdQual Joint RPC dissemiation event, University of Cape Coast, Ghana September 2010

Dr. George K.T. Oduro, University of Cape Coast, will convene this event to share and discuss findings from across the three DFID-funded RPCs (EdQual, RECOUP, CREATE). With respect to EdQual research the focus will be on findings from the Leadership & Management and Language & Literacy projects. The event will bring together officials from the Ministry of Education, Sports & Science, Ghana Education Services, academics, teacher trainers and practitioner action researchers, who have participated in EdQual research.

EdQual Rwanda dissemination event, Kigali Institute of Education, September 2010.

EdQual institutional co-ordinator Evariste Karangwa will convene an event to share and discuss findings from EdQual’s research in Rwanda through the Use of ICTs and Curriculum Change project. The event, taking place on 24-25th September, will bring together education planners from the Ministry of Education and Vocational Training, representatives of organisations supporting the distribution of ICTs to Rwandan schools, academics, teacher trainers and and teachers, including action researchers within EdQual’s projects.
